How to become an Acolyte

Go to Prontera Church. It is located in the Northeastern corner of Prontera City. Once one enters the church they have to go to the room to the right hand side and talk to the Priest NPC. He will tell them to go meet one of the following NPCs.

  • Note: Once the novice talks to the ascetic they will be saved at their location. This means that once the novice dies they will respawn at the NPC's spot instead of their old save point.

Morroc

This is the longest distance one has to travel but is actually relatively easy to get to given that the novice hasn't used up all of their Kafra Tickets for the teleport service. Simply use the service to go to Morroc and exit to the north. The NPC is located in the North Western Corner

East Geffen

Once again use the Kafra ticket to warp to Geffen and go 2 maps to the East to locate this NPC. The NPC is located in the center of the map.

East Prontera

The Ascetic to the East of Prontera is located in the North Eastern corner. This quest is actually one of the hardest of the three choices due to the Mandragora map the novice has to pass through. Remember not to hit any of the Yoyos. They will kill most novices. Fly Wing from any Chocos, they will also kill most novices.

Job Change

Return back to Prontera to change into an Acolyte. Note that the Acolyte will be unable to use Daggers because of the class change, meaning if this is their first character they will have to make enough money as a novice to buy an NPC mace to get their first few Acolyte levels easily.

Common Skill/Stat Builds

Battle Builds

Support - Turning Priest - PVM

Starting stats

Rough stats before Priest job change (bonuses not included). This will likely be around base level 65, possibly lower if one levels on monsters with unusual base/job EXP ratios.

Skills at job 50 (any FS PvM Acolyte not intending to go the entire 50 jobs should not bother making one at all, they can't hold a candle to job 50 Acolytes). These skills can be gotten in any order (outside of the prerequisites), but this is one common way. The number after the skill name indicates how many points to put into it, not necessarily the level to take the skill to.

Also note that not all of these skills are a requirement for all PvM FS Acolytes, some people have different playing styles, but almost all of them are used as other Acolyte skill prerequisites, Priest skill prerequisites (these will be noted) or are just extremely useful.

Two skills that no two Acolytes turning Support Priest will ever agree on are Cure and Decrease Agility. One should do their research before choosing to get or not get either, as both options have pros and cons. If the Acolyte doesn't get Cure or Decrease Agility then they'll be putting those points into Angelus.

Support - Turning Priest - WoE

Can be the same as support PVM, if one wants to get lower VIT in order to protect against skills that pierce defense then they should vary their amounts of VIT and DEX.

Starting stats

Rough stats before Priest job change (bonuses not included). This will likely be around base level 65, possibly lower if the Acolyte levels on monsters with unusual base/job EXP ratios.

  • STR: 1
  • AGI: 1
  • VIT: Low, just starting to add
  • INT: Very high, but 99 isn't necessary
  • DEX: 4
  • LUK: 9

Skills at Job 50

Can be the exact same as PvM FS, but may consider working Decrease Agility into build, and possibly not getting Angelus until Priest or not at all.

Leveling Spots

Support - Turning Priest - PvM

This is a very general guide, the actual levels spent at the places depend greatly on equipment, whether the person has friends helping (and their levels/equipment), and how experienced the person is with playing the Acolyte class and RO in general.

  • Lv 1-12: Leveling as a novice. Stick to low level monsters like Porings, Pupas, and Roda Frogs. If being tanked then try Poporings.

  • Lv 12-30: The first few jobs as an Acolyte will be on the same monsters killed as a novice, or one can also move to Payon Caves instead of killing Poporings. Unless the Acolyte has good SP/INT gear or friends then their SP will run out fast when heal bombing, so they have to make sure that they have an equip like a Mace to defend themselves while regenerating HP and SP.

  • Lv 30-40: Here is where one can choose to solo or to jump right into fully supporting a party. The Acolyte can choose to heal bomb monsters in the 2nd and 3rd levels of Payon Caves, or possibly heal bomb at the Glastheim Church Yard, but the Mimics, Hunter Flies, and Dark Lord make this challenging. The easiest thing to do is to find a low level Mage to party with, either at Prontera Argiopes, Louyang Mi Gaos, or Clock Tower or Glastheim Sewer Stings if both party members have good equipment.

  • Lv 40-50: Continue heal bombing at the aforementioned places, and possibly move to Glastheim Prison once you get Holy Light to kill Zombie Prisoners and Injustices. Also may continue leveling with Mages, but try to be at Clock Tower and Stings now unless the party members are all new to RO.

  • Lv 50-65: Again mostly the same places, try to only party now as soloing gets pretty slow and dull. May want to step it up a bit and find a newly changed Wizard to level with at Prison instead since they can mob. Or a low level Dancer/Bard to go to Stings with since they'll kill much more efficiently than a Mage. Also, if the Acolyte has very good equipment they can consider partying with a Grand Cross Crusader at Glastheim Chivalry.

PvM PvP WOE Application

Tips and Tricks

  • Learn battle mode before turning Priest. The Acolyte skills probably won't fill up more than one hot key bar, but just getting used to battle mode's quirks will make the transition to Priest much easier.

  • If this is a starting character then one should consider getting Warp Portal early on as they can make a little extra money warping people to places like Louyang at a lower price than the NPC can (and still make profit since it only costs them 600z for the Blue Gem).

  • Making a high INT Acolyte isn't recommended for people who don't like to help others. If anyone sees an Acolyte sitting in town they will possibly ask them for buffs, heals, and maybe if they have a warp to a certain map. The Acolyte of course don't have to do any of these things for strangers, but keep in mind that the way a person treats others is the treatment they get in return.

   * Acolytes are some of the most frequently KSed first classes. Unless the person KSes one repeatedly, try to just shrug it off.
